We invite comments on the proposed minimum price of 50 pence per unit which is set out in the draft Scottish Statutory Instrument at Annex A .
This proposal could damage the whisky industry in Scotland, which is a major draw for tourism and also a huge employer. This government needs to learn that people taking people by the hand and trying to control every aspect of their lives is not how to encourage a self-reliant society, populations should be encouraged to make their own decisions. The people who buy alcohol rather than food for their children will still do so, there will just be less food for the children, family etc. The people who will suffer will be those who like a glass of wine or spirits in their own home, not the problem drinkers. I understand there is proposals for a minimum price of over 50 pence, which will simply harm industry even more.
