We invite comments on the proposed minimum price of 50 pence per unit which is set out in the draft Scottish Statutory Instrument at Annex A .
Tayside Council on Alcohol (TCA) wishes to voice its support to the proposed minimum price of 50 pence per unit. There is a considerable body of evidence to suggest that MUP plays an important part in tackling the harm caused by cheap spirits and high strength ciders to the most vulnerable members of our communities. We believe there is wide support for this proposal amongst those working in the health and social care field and indeed from those individuals and families who have been impacted by the negative health, social and economic effects of problem drinking. We would hope the impact of the introduction of MUP be evaluation and monitored for impact, including any unanticipated outcomes, and that the level of minimum price be open for review in due course to ensure it remains in line with economic changes.
