We invite comments on the proposed minimum price of 50 pence per unit which is set out in the draft Scottish Statutory Instrument at Annex A .
Fife Alcohol and Drug Partnership welcome the introduction of a minimum unit pricing as part of evidence based whole population responses to addressing the impact of alcohol related harm. Although there is some concern about the 50p threshold possibly not having the original impact expected when this legislation was first introduce, we are pleased to see the sunset clause which will allow the initiative to be reviewed after a five year period. We are concerned if the 50p unit price was to change now this would subject the policy to a further legal challenge setting back the implementation and further harm incurring to the public health of Scotland’s citizens.
