Many cultural institutions in Scotland are run by volunteers. They are wonderful people but mostly elderly as they have more time than the working population. This is reflected in the choice of subjects and the presentation, also the visitors. To attract everyone this will have to change. Introduce wages for these important jobs!

The community ownership seems to aim again at volunteers. It's the same wonderful people in every community who work for all good causes, for free. Employ a brigade of professionals throughout the mentioned sectors to fulfil the aim. Get away from the coffee morning mentality please.

Volunteers need to be paid. As mentioned before the main pool of volunteers are retired people. To get a diverse workforce you have to pay wages.

International cooperation is essential. Paying your workforce and attracting young people from all sectors will make a significant difference.

Train volunteers up to become professionals and then pay them.
