Please explain your answer.
I live near Eyemouth,a beautiful part of the East Berwickshire coastline but a community suffering from severe economic and social decline .RBS bank and post office closing,no jobs -a particular problem for young people ,who consequently have to leave the area .;young people have to travel to Berwick or Galashiels if they want to do training courses and this is difficult with our depleted rural bus service . -we are very isolated -even getting to Edinburgh is difficult due to coast and time of travel-we have been promised a new railway station at Reston for years ,which could help with his ,but still no sign of it .
Increased transport links old also help with tourism .At the moment it feels like we live in a forgotten and abandoned part of the country .we need investment ,including investing in community workers who could bring the community together to work on solutions to their own problems .there is much good will within the community ,but we need professional help and skills to plan strategies and put these plans into action and move forward .
Local people are worried about anti social behaviour of young people but again there are so few facilities and support services for young people- statutory youth services have been cut to the bone and voluntary organizations have no funding security security and are totally under-resourced .Substance abuse and mental health issues are on the increase and 10 years of austerity and poverty are taking a huge toll on our communities . communities without hope will not thrive

2. What would you like to see for the South of Scotland?

What would you like to see for the South of Scotland?
see above
-more support of all kinds to bring new employment
-more training and further education opportunities for everyone ,especially the unemployed and young people
community workers within areas to help local people to identify their own needs and work towards meeting these and to help local people to organize themselves in support of their communities -the investment in community workers would result in more local people being active within their communities and taking responsibility .often the committment is there ,but local people need to develop particular skill sets and knowledge to achieve their goals

-more youth work and youth support services and facilities
-better rural transport services to allevaite geographical ,social and econmic isolation
-more support for tourism opportunities
-a co-ordinated approach to tackling poverty and inequality within communities
-more social housing needs to be built to alleviate what is sometimes a hidden housing crisis -a huge council house-building programme needs to be developed
-more local consultation from the scottish government -more listening
-more local democracy -community councils seem tokenistic and without any real clout -an overhall of how to implement real community consultation ,involvement and control

What are your ambitions for the future economic success of
please see previous answers ,but vital that local people are involved -they are the experts on the needs of their communities and how these communities can be improved -not tokenistic consultation but real active participation .community work is vital in bringing communities together ,linking groups and organizations of all kinds and makig sure that there is a holisitc approach to community problem solving .more money and resources are needed within communities is impotnat but an investment in community support services would result in happier ,more equal .more involved, more connected ,and healthier populations.

the south of scotland is a huge area.we here dont see ourselves as being part of that region -we live in local communities and areas and our needs are not all the same .to get to dumfries by public transport from coldingham where i live would well nigh be impossible and even by car a very lengthy journey -this needs to be acknowledged .there is no one -size -fits all solution .

invest in community workers ,youth workers ,welfare rights workers, drug and alcohol support workers ,mental health support workers, elderly care workers etc-increased community support workers
