A thriving economy in a welcoming environment.

What are your ambitions for the future economic success of
Sustainable growth of existing and emerging manufacture e.g. food and drink production.
Sharing of assets - I have a concern that the big landowners will profit.

What are the strengths you would like to see the Agency
We do quite a lot of things well - please build on what works well.
Borderlands people are gentle and accommodating - please protect them from exploitation but use their characteristics to promote development.
The South of Scotland is beautiful - develop tourism in a sustainable way.

1. Third sector working
2. Links between further and higher education (although limited)
3. Borders Railway

7. What would you add or take away from the potential activities that the Agency could carry out across the three areas:

a) drive forward the economy?
what about evaluation - suggest using universities
b) sustain communities?
There needs to be more for young people in the Borders . While there are lots of sporting opportunities, much of the cultural events and facilities are more suited to older folk.

8. What would you prioritise as the key areas of activity for the Agency?

Infrastructure - accessible public transport and suitable housing

10. What could the Agency do outwith its boundaries working with other local authorities or with agencies like Highlands and Islands Enterprise to support specific projects which benefit the South of Scotland and with national agencies?

South of Scotland is huge - please consider sharing premises with other relevant agencies and locate in both Dumfriesshire and Galloway and the Scottish Borders.
Please consider cross border activities.

14. What sort of people should be on the Board of the Agency and what sorts of skills and expertise should they have?

What sort of people should be on the Board of the Agency
A mixture of elected representatives, local businesses and perhaps someone from a successful enterprise agency - please do not overwhelm with landowners.
It might also be useful to include someone from Visit Scotland although there presence hitherto has been very limited. Might be useful to have someone from the third sector - so many experienced volunteers who know their community well.

We want to make sure that the Agency works effectively with a
There needs to be a joined up approach, linking local agencies with relevant national ones.
Folk are very precious about their locality so a sensitive approach to where the agency is based and what businesses are supported is required.
