The same as in 2.5, with the addition of an emphasis on capitalising on the built heritage of the south of Scotland - e.g. Caerlaverock Castle, the Crichton Campus - as hooks to draw in visitors and investment.

Again, one in which the built heritage of the region can play a central role in levering income and investment through tourism. We need to be better known for our offerings to visitors. A National Park for Galloway would help.

Our university and college offerings - we could be a centre of excellence in many areas. Also, our new hospital in Dumfries as a centre of excellence.

an improvement to the appalling state of the A75 - at a minimum, bypasses for Crocketford and Springholm, plus average speed cameras and a raising of the speed limit for lorries to 50mph.

D&G College does sterling work in engaging with employers and striving to align its offerings with their needs.

7. What would you add or take away from the potential activities that the Agency could carry out across the three areas:

a) drive forward the economy?
Make accessible high speed broadband for all of the region an absolute priority. Without it, many SMEs and micro businesses will wither away.
b) sustain communities?
support shops, schools and post offices in areas of low population where they are under threat.
c) capitalise on people and resources?
Capitalise on the retired communities - rather than seeing older people as a problem, see them as part of the solution for economic regeneration. Many are in good health, have a wealth of experience and would welcome the chance to contribute.

Edinburgh as World Heritage Site and destination of millions of tourists per year could help to push some of the visitors to our region by actively promoting it

As I am in a very remote area, I am unlikely to be near an office, so good digital delivery would be esssential

A diverse board is essential. At least one young person should be on the Board, but the majority of members should have a wide range of high-level experience in business and commerce, education, transport, public services, heritage, tourism and the third sector. An outstanding Chair is needed.

15. We know that young people are less likely to stay in or move to the South of Scotland than they are other parts of the country. Do you have any comments on things the Agency could do to meet the interests of children and young people?

The Arts organisations in SW Scotland strive hard to engage young people - they need to be encouraged to continue to do so. The universities and colleges also need support to offer young people the kinds of courses they need and want in lively institutions
