A vision for Rural Scotland

Rural stakeholders and communities have been clear that a vision for rural Scotland is needed.

The vision presented in this plan brings together the key messages from the 2018 National Council of Rural Advisors “New blueprint for Scotland's rural economy” report, the overarching vision from the National Strategy for Economic Transformation, and incorporates the Vision proposed  by our rural communities and stakeholders at the 2023 Scottish Rural and Islands Parliament.

We have listened to our stakeholders. This Rural Delivery Plan sets out our vision for mainland rural Scotland, based on what our rural communities have told us they want to see in rural Scotland.

The purpose of this vision is to clarify our long-term goal and the overarching purpose of the Rural Delivery Plan. We want this to provide direction towards a shared future for rural Scotland.

Draft vision for rural Scotland:

"Our vision is for a vibrant, sustainable, equal and inclusive rural Scotland, with its diverse rural communities thriving across economic, cultural, social and environmental dimensions, feeding, powering, inspiring, providing homes and livelihoods to, and nurturing the wellbeing of current and future generations"
