Overview

The Draft Offshore Wind Policy Statement aims to set out the Scottish Government's ambitions for the future of offshore wind policy in Scotland, in light of the recent net zero by 2045 commitment made by the First Minister. The Policy Statement will also set the context for Marine Scotland's draft Sectoral Marine Plan for Offshore Wind, which will be published for consultation in parallel with this document.

Why your views matter

We want to better understand the role of both fixed and floating offshore wind technologies in reaching our ambitious net zero target, and how we can maximise the economic opportunity attached to commercial scale offshore wind deployment in Scottish waters. We will use this feedback to inform the development of the final Offshore Wind Policy Statement.

What happens next

When the consultation closes, all responses will be analysed and considered along with any other available evidence to help us shape the final Offshore Wind Policy Statement. We intend making all non-confidential responses to the consultation available to the public on the consultation page within 20 days of the consultation closing date. We will also post an analysis of responses received to the consultation on the Scottish Government's consultation web pages. We aim to issue a report on the consultation exercise. This report will be available on the Scottish Government consultation hub.
