We asked

Does the Scottish Hate Crime legislation need changed to ensure it is fit for 21st Century Scotland and does it afford sufficient protection for those that need it. 

We also asked if additional statutory aggravations are required.

You said

We received over one thousand responses to the consultation and around 400 people attended the consultation events. 

You commented on our proposals giving reasons for either supporting or not supporting individual prposals.

We did

We are currently considering all consultation responses as we continue to develop our consolidated hate crime legislation to be put before Holyrood during the current parliamentary period.

Overview

Consulting on Lord Bracadale's recommendations as per his review of Hate Crime Legislation in Scotland.  The consultation asks questions on our approach to consolidating all Scottish Hate Crime legislation and expanding the statutory aggravations.  

During the consultation we will be running a series of public events across Scotland to allow individuals and communities to come along to share their views and inform what is included in the new hate crime legislation.

The events are free of charge but in order to book your place you must do so by clicking on the Eventbrite link below and provide details of each indivual attendee.  All tickets should then be clearly displayed upon arrival on the day of the event.

We will analyse the responses and consider them in the shaping of our Hate Crime Bill. We will publish our analysis of the consultation in Summer 2019.
