Overview
To seek an amendment to the code of conduct to allow councillors to continue to act as councillors and continue to represent their electorate without there being a conflict of interest if they represent the council on the board of an external organisation.
Why your views matter
Currently the Code of Conduct prevents a councillor from sitting on the board of an organisation in his capacity as a councillor whilst still allowing him to take part in council meetings where there might be a conflict of interest between his responsibility as a councillor and his responsibility to that organisation. We need councillors to represent the council on external boards whilst still being able to properly represent their electorate. We are seeking to reconcile the wording of the code to exempt any possible conflict of interests in the specified circumstances.
