Consultation on the Fair Isle Demonstration and Research Marine Protected Area Proposal
Overview
Inviting views on the designation of one Demonstration and Research Marine Protected Area (D&R MPA) for Fair Isle, under the Marine (Scotland) Act 2010.
Why your views matter
The community of Fair Isle have unanimously submitted a proposal for a Demonstration and Research MPA to demonstrate, through research and dissemination, the effectiveness of a community-led partnership approach in achieving a programme of sustainable measures to help ensure that the marine environment is in a condition that benefits all stakeholders as fully as possible.
The aim of the consultation is to provide an opportunity for the public and interested parties to formally respond to the proposal, that Marine Scotland have assessed as having passed the necessary selection guidelines for designation.
What happens next
The aim is for the proposal to be formally designated by the end of 2016, and for the Fair Isle D&R MPA Steering Committee to take over local management of the site, with support from Scottish Government and Scottish Natural Heritage.
