Scottish Social Housing Charter Review

We asked
On the 17th June 2021 we published a consultation on the review of the Scottish Social Housing Charter. The Charter sets the outcomes and standards that social landlords should be delivering for tenants and is monitored and reported on by the Scottish Housing Regulator.
You said
We received a total of 86 responses to the consultation. This included responses from 52 organisations (17 from Registered Social Landlords and their representative bodies, 16 from local authorities, 11 from tenant and resident associations and their representative bodies and 8 from other organisations).
You told us that
- the Charter was having a positive impact and;
- the outcomes and standards should remain largely the same and;
- to alter the Charter substantially would reduce the positive impact it has made on the services landlords provide to their tenants and other customers.
We did
The Scottish Government's indpendent analysis of the consultation was published in November 2021. Scottish Social Housing Charter: consultation analysis - gov.scot (www.gov.scot)
We will use this analysis to make some minor changes to the Charter before asking Parliament to approve the revised Charter.
Overview
This consultation seeks views on the Scottish Social Housing Charter. The Charter was introduced by the Housing (Scotland) Act 2010, which requires Ministers to set standards and outcomes that social landlords should be achieving for tenants and other customers through their housing activities. It also requires Ministers to review the Charter standards and outcomes from time to time with the last review being undertaken in 2016.
Consultation Events
We are also looking to hear about the experiences of social housing tenants and staff at our virtual events taking place during June and July. At the event, you will have the chance to take part in conversation with other tenants or staff, and share you experiences with us in more depth.

Why your views matter
Your response will help us to make changes to the Charter which will encourage social landlords to continue building on the improvements they have made so far delivering the high quality services that tenants and other customers want and expect.
What happens next
Following this consultation we will develop an updated version of the Charter and ask the Scottish Parliament to consider the changes and approve a revised Charter from 1st April 2022.
