The Scottish Bus Open Data Consultation

Closes 21 Jun 2025

S3A The prescribed information - passenger views

In order to ensure that the information to be provided under the new Regulations is beneficial to passengers, and potential passengers, we are seeking views on what bus users would like to know about bus services and why. We are also seeking views on the more technical aspects of the same topics, which we appreciate may not be of interest to passengers.

The following questions have been titled as seeking 'passenger' and 'operator' views for reference, however all questions can be answered by any respondant.

4. Do you consider yourself as having additional access needs when using public transport?

This could mean features of the bus or bus stop itself, such as audio announcements, or features on the vehicle, such as a wheelchair accessible space.

The Equality Act 2010 defines a disabled person as someone who has a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on their ability to perform normal day-to-day activities.

We are keen to hear from all users of bus services, including disabled persons as defined above, and those who may have accessibility needs that do not fall within the definition of disability as defined in the Equality Act 2010 above.

5. From the following list of routine information, please tick any that you would find useful if made available to you when planning a bus journey.

* For tickets that operate in a zone, the service numbers, routes or bus stops included in the range of the ticket.

**For example if a ticket is cheaper if you buy in advance or online, compared to buying onboard, or has a discount applied if bought through an app.

^Such as, advertised on board buses, on a bus operator website, via a third party app etc

6. Assuming all of the routine information you would find useful were available, how would you prefer to obtain a ticket for travel?

Please rank the following methods in order of preference.

Whichever option you would most prefer, please set that as '1st choice' and so on.

If you are entitled to free travel, please disregard the options for payment, and rank the following methods in order of preference by type.

7. Which of the following ‘real time’ information would you find useful in planning your use of a specific service/services, if it were available?

*For example, it announces or provides information about the current and next stop visually

8. Specifically thinking about the bus stop or stopping place of the bus, which of the following would you find useful to planning your journey, if it were available?
9. The remaining questions are not likely to be of interest to passengers, relating to the more technical aspects of data exchange. If you would like to skip to the end of the consultation, please select 'yes' below.
