2. What would you like to see for the South of Scotland?

What would you like to see for the South of Scotland?
Well....gosh....
I’d like to see a really nice place to live in, work in, and visit.
More shops. Good quality shops not discount stores.
Better transport. Buses in rural areas please!
Social responsibility. More projects like litter picking. Many people have piles of rubbish on their own land. I’d like to see a project where you take photos of eyesores and the council should have powers to do something.
Also noise! Tourists don’t want to stay in and area with outside dogs barking constantly, it ruins the area. Again the council seem powerless.

Shops, businesses, tourism. Clean the place up and make it tourist friendly.

The borders railway.
Current tourism need to be enhanced.

Lack of shops in towns mean there is no point shopping there and nothing for tourists to spend their money on.
Please support local people to start small businesses. The town centres have particular challenges with empty shops and decaying buildings.

It’s a beautiful area that people want to visit, but there is a lack of support for tourism. Ther isn’t that much to do. Town centres are scruffy.

Improve the roads, they are terrible.
Improve the look - litter picking and reporting and dealing with eyesores.
Get new businesses into our towns.
Rural buses.

Transport links
People could stopover in the borders on the way to the highlands etc. I think a lot of tourists just drive through the south.

I think take buildings in various towns, hub and spoke model. Make a presence.

Town centre locations too.

Dynamic people with local interests who want to put south Scotland on the tourist and economic map.

15. We know that young people are less likely to stay in or move to the South of Scotland than they are other parts of the country. Do you have any comments on things the Agency could do to meet the interests of children and young people?

We know that young people are less likely to stay in or move
Not sure, it’s about jobs and opportunities. Young people will leave rural areas for larger cities.
