1. To what extent do you agree with the framework proposals for Ministers and public authorities to prepare statements of policy, have regard to them in the exercise of relevant functions, and report on implementation, with regard to international obligations and guidance?

Important that Scottish Government and local public authorities ensure the Good Food Nation ambition is met and that the process is flexible to suit different authority areas, rather than a one size fits all.

2. Whilst we do not plan to require all sectors to prepare statements of policy on food, they do all have a role to play in achieving our Good Food Nation ambition. To what extent do you agree that Government should encourage and enable businesses in particular to play their part?

Business needs to get on board with this - they are the big influencers on diet and lifestyle choices. They invest heavily in marketing their product - no matter how high in fat or sugar they may be - they could just as easily get on board with promoting good food and a healthy lifestyle. This would need to be worth their while doing though. If business loses out but marketing health, they won't take it up. The Government needs to get businesses on side to promoting better choices and producing better quality food items with a better Food Culture in Scotland.

3. To what extent do you agree with the proposed approach to accountability of Scottish Ministers and specified public authorities?

I believe there should be an independent statutory body to oversee the Good Food Nation policy and ensure that Scottish Ministers and public authorities are held truly accountable for timely and accurately reporting back on the progress of the policy and the impact it is having in each authority area.

4. To what extent do you agree with the proposal for targeted legislation relevant to specific policy areas as an alternative to a single piece of legislation?

As long as implementing the targeted legislation does not impede upon the overall aim of the Good Food Nation Policy by increasing the time between publication of each targeted legislation.
