Seasonal closure allows the marine life to repopulate and for the ecology to have respite from fishing
2. Do you have any views on the proposed continuation of exemptions, which have previously applied, for fishing boats fishing with scallop dredges, creels or trawls used for fishing for Norway lobsters?
Please provide your comments in the text box below
These exemptions should not be allowed as it is contradictory to having the seasonal closures.
3. Do you have any views on alternative or complementary measures that could be considered for the protection of cod spawning in the Firth of Clyde for 2024 and beyond?
Please provide your comments in the text box below
Extended areas of seasonal closure would benefit the entire marine ecosystem. Scallop dredging is extremely damaging to the ecology of the seabed. Scallop dredging should be restricted and hand diving for scallops should be encouraged as a less environmentally damaging method.
