A Statutory Code of Practice covering biometric data and technologies

1. Do you believe a statutory code of practice covering the acquisition, use, retention and disposal of biometric data for justice and community safety purposes is required?

Please expand on the reasons for your answer.
This commissioner's powers must be enshrined in law along with the definition of biometrics, their use by any organisation, and very importantly an automatic presumption of deletion. Ordinary citizens should not be treated like criminals.

Please expand on the reasons for your answer.
I find this entire use of biometrics issue deeply disturbing while conceding something like this may be necessary for security reasons. Therefore I ask you to provide adequate safeguards such as an independent commissioner who can protect the right to privacy while overseeing the constant changing biometric techniques.
