Capacity and Demand

3. We know that vehicle space capacity is at a premium during peak time sailings. Do you have any suggestions that could be introduced to reduce vehicle space demand?

Please select one item
Radio button: Ticked Yes
Radio button: Unticked No
If yes, what are your suggestions?
Higher charges or restrictions on campervans

4. To reduce the number of cars on deck at peak times, would you be willing to travel to and from a port using public transport?

5. To reduce the number of cars on deck at peak times, would you be willing to travel to and from a port using active travel modes (walking, wheeling, cycling)?

Please select one item
Radio button: Unticked Yes
Radio button: Ticked No
If no, please explain your answer
8 miles from my home to the ferry terminal. 30 miles from my arrival port to my usual destination

6. Should Operators be required to hold dedicated vehicle deck spaces on busy routes for the use of island residents and key worker personnel required to travel at short notice?

Please select one item
Radio button: Ticked Yes
Radio button: Unticked No
If no, please explain your answer
Residents should have priority booking at all times. If boats are cancelled and a queue builds up for the next sailing residents returning home should be prioritised over tourists particularly campervans that have the means to wait overnight

Community Voice, Transparency and Accountability

7. How could communities be provided with a stronger role in providing input on ferries related decisions?

Please give us your views
We are well represented by the ferry committee

8. Are there ways in which Operator's engagement with local communities can be improved?

Please give us your views
I believe Calmac do engage well with the ferry committee

11. Should communities have greater say in the development of timetables, so they suit the needs of ferry users?

Please select one item
Radio button: Ticked Yes
Radio button: Unticked No
Please explain your answer
Ferry, bus and rail timetables need to be better aligned and serve all areas of the island equally.

Carbon Reduction and Environmental Impact

12. In what ways can ferries reduce their carbon emissions in line with Net Zero targets?

Please give us your views
Don't build ferries that appear greener but then use fuel that needs to be transported 100s of miles by road from England. It's not a carbon saving at all.

13. Would you consider reducing your car use when travelling by ferry?

Please select one item
Radio button: Unticked Yes
Radio button: Ticked No
If no, please explain your answer
Have to take car to the mainland to purchase heavy items. Can't carry these along the ridiculously long passenger access system. There are no trollies like you have in an airport. Take the car more often since the removal of the short gangplank that was much closer to the buses.

Onward and Connecting Travel

14. What do you think could be introduced to improve public transport connectivity between ferries, rail and bus operators?

Please give us your views
We never know if the bus to my part of the island will wait if the ferry arrives late or not. Far too long to wait for the next one if it doesn't. Taxi is £30 if you can get one. Another reason to take the car.

The times of the trains that meets the ferry at Ardrossan needs adjusting. One only allows 14 mins to get on the boat. If this is late the boat should wait.

Accessibility

15. Would you support a regular accessibility audit taking place with accessibility groups such as Mobility Access Committee Scotland (MACS), with the aim of improving accessibility at ports and onboard vessels?

Freight Services

16. Are there ways to improve the Operator’s collaboration with hauliers and businesses to better plan commercial traffic volumes?

Please give us your views
Yes. Hauliers constantly over book so it appears there are no car spaces available. They then cancel unwanted bookings on the morning of travel freeing car spaces for everyone else. This affects residents and visitors ability to plan ahead. This just seems to be accepted practice.

Monitoring and Review

18. Would you like to be able to give feedback to improve services?

Radio button: Ticked Yes
Radio button: Unticked No
If yes, how often should this happen and how should this be conducted?
I'm happy to discuss this in any way.
