Overview
Scotland’s climate is warming, the growing season is getting longer, and we are facing more extreme weather and rising sea levels. We need to adapt to these changes, reduce risks and take advantage of new opportunities to safeguard our future and bring wide-ranging benefits to everyone in Scotland. We will build on the significant achievements of the past decade by continuing to strengthen the resilience of our communities, society, economy and environment to the effects of climate change.
Why your views matter
Programme for Government 2018 committed us to develop a new five-year Climate Change Adaptation Programme for Scotland. The new Adaptation Programme will build on progress made under our 2009 Adaptation Framework and our first statutory Adaptation Programme in 2014. The new Programme will take into account the latest Climate Change Risk Assessment published in 2017 and assessments of the current Programme by our independent advisers, the Adaptation Sub-Committee of the Committee on Climate Change.
We want to hear your views on the draft Programme: its vision, outcomes, sub-outcomes and the policies in place to deliver these, as well as how we should monitor progress. We will use your feedback to develop the Programme for launch in autumn 2019.
What happens next
Your resonses to this consultation will help us finalise our new outcomes-based five-year Climate Change Adaptation Programme and its visions, outcomes and policies.
