Have the smart card discreetly designed to ensure there is no stigma attached. Ensure the smart card can be used in all retail outlets to provide choice and accessibility.

I’m afraid we don’t see this information from the current email system we just see the overall consultations subscribers rather than broken down by topic.
Promotion of healthy eating and affordable recipes within all stores. Health promotion within early years establishments by health professionals to promote ideas for healthy diet.

A programme incorporating healthy eating similar to FAST. Has to be consistent not a one off to ensure high level of engagement and be inclusive of families receiving smart card funding.

Should the provision of children’s vitamins be linked to eligibility for the new Best Start Foods (i.e. up to age of three)?
Everything should be linked together, including free school meal and clothing grant applications. Currently the process can be complex leading to families not accessing what they are entitled to.

What do you think about the proposal to offer milk as part of the free meal offer for all children in ELC funded provision by 2020?
Milk is currently on offer for all children accessing early years. The free school meal funding should have been rolled out to early years when the free school meals were offered in primary school. The current provision is discrimination for children accessing the early years. There has been a significant increase in the amount of families living in poverty. To raise attainment we have to get the well-being of a child right, they cannot learn if they are hungry.

What are your views on the proposal to include an offer of a healthy snack to complement the free milk and meal offer for all children in early learning and childcare funded provision by 2020?
Due to the increase in children living in poverty there has been an increase in children attending ELCC settings and schools without having had breakfast. Healthy snack should be provided with the appropriate funding in place to ensure sustainability. Currently no funding in place and an inadequate amount of fruit available.
