Yes - Simpler and hopefully better value ticketing can only increase the usage of public transport. Having only one smart cart to carry is also far more convenient than multiples.

Long distance coach travel should also be included, ideally with the option to combine a single advance fare for the long distance part plus a season ticket at one or both ends. This would encourage people to use coaches for holidays across Scotland.

Cost and inconvenience of public transport vs car travel is one of the main reasons people chose their cars. Making public transport less expensive and easier to use (a through ticket to the destination regardless of operators) will increase usage.

Having a national smart card system in place could (and should) pave the way for means rather than age assessed concessionary travel.
