Open Government

Closed 31 Aug 2018

Opened 10 Aug 2018

Overview

We want to live in a country where people and governments come together to solve the most pressing challenges we face; where the decision making process is transparent and accountable, and where we all have a say in the policies and services that shape our lives.

Whether you would like more opportunities to be involved in public service decision making;  to see more information or data released in areas such as transport or education; or want more information on how public money is spent, open government is for you!

What is Open Government?

Governments use public money to shape the society we live in. The decisions taken impact on the day to day quality of life that we enjoy. Open governments do not just enable citizens to see what decisions are made, they support us to take part in shaping them and provide us with the information we need to examine and question their choices. An open government is one that shares information, empowers people to hold their actions to account and supports people to take part in the decisions over public policies and services that affect them.

Why your views matter

Do you have an idea for how government could be done differently in Scotland? Perhaps more participatory budgeting, more information on public finances or greater understanding of how policy decisions are made? If so, we need your help to take open government forward in Scotland. Your ideas will help us develop the next OGP Scottish National Action Plan.  The plan, which runs from 2018 – 2020 will include 3-5 commitments focused around transparency, accountability, and public participation.

You can post your ideas for actions and comment on others’ ideas below. If you have not participated before, you will need to register using the link at the top of this page. This enables you to see your previous ideas, including any comments, and to provide feedback on other people’s ideas.

Further information on Open Government in Scotland and upcoming events can be found here or contact us on Twitter @OGP_Scotland. We welcome the views of all individuals. This dialogue will be open until the end of August 2018.
